OK, so a few weeks ago I saw the movie.
I actually really liked it.
I feel a little bad that I was so anti it.
(that does NOT mean I will see Avatar. I won't do it.)
I especially liked the story that they chose. I wish they had a different girl, (Rachel Mc Adams just seemed woody and not believable. which is sad because she is such a fun character.) but I would be happy with another movie.
If they do what I think they will do as a sequel it should be pretty awesome.
So, see it if you are looking for something entertaining and fun, and also clever.

I thought it was pretty good, although I've only heard bits and pieces of the original stories thanks to my dad who's quite a fan. The books are on my to-read list for some point in the future! I finally relented to watching Avatar and it was OK. The plot line wasn't as good as the scenery and animation though. This seems to be the case with several of the newer animated movies, great backgrounds and animation but lacking in plot and depth.
