Wooden Crates
Can I tell you how Awesome wooden crates are. You can put anything in them and they make your disorganization look organized!
You know whats even better than wooden crates. Free wooden crates!!!
By our place I have found 3 wooden crates and one plastic crate on the side of the road. So Awesome!!! They are in good condition and are sturdy as well. I think they come from the Mexican market by us. I am grateful that they are leaving these treasures out for the taking. Seriously I look forward to taking the kids on walks to see if there are any more crates out on the street. This is a blessing for me. I have been wanting to decorate outside with my plants and inside.
See how the mess is carefully hidden. |
This is out back. Where we keep our full sun herbs and succulents and aloes. |
The front. I am not quite done decorating out here. I need one or two more crates. And some shade plants to complete it. |
Decorating for free takes time and patience and confidence. Not feeling like a crazy person for picking up something you see in the gutter takes a little humility and boldness. But man, free wooden crates is worth people thinking your a little off.

Last day of 2D design
I have really enjoyed this class. the teacher really gave us all some awesome creative ideas and helped us understand the basics through working with art. There was really good creative energy there. Next week I start drawing1. Which will be more practice and skill honing which I totally need, but I will miss color a lot. On the bright side there are several people from my 2D design class in drawing1 so I won't feel so awkward. I am planning on posting pictures of my work from class, I am just pooped today and I really need to clean the house. Only 3 classes to go then Summer classes are over!

3 steps
Calvin has begun walking! On Fathers day Justin told me he took 3 steps! (to show how awesome a father he is Justin let me sleep through church and took the boys) Ever since then at least once a day he takes a step or two. Today while we were outside playing with balls Calvin picked one of the balls up and took 3 steps! Pictures to come of our little walking man!

8 bit Modern
I took the kids over to the BYU Museum of art for the opening of 8 bit Modern by Michael Whiting. In my 2D art class we were talking about places you could go for extra credit and the opening of this exhibit was one of them. The exhibit is located in the sculpture garden. The sculptures resemble minimalist sculpture. As you get closer your view of the monolithic 8 bit sculpture changes and the simple shapes become more flat. The size of each piece invites you to look at it from all angles. The naturalistic pieces already in the garden disappear with the addition of these brightly colored pieces. Having a toddler who wanted to climb on them also helped me to see them from different perspectives. Each piece is very playful. It was nice to be there before the party started to have a little bit of solitude with them and reflect on my youth playing simple videogames. I came away from this exhibit very happy and nostalgic.
Probably Felix's favorite one. He liked the water mostly I think... |
This is the buck. |
The boys loved the colored crispy treats. There were also blocks on the table to create your own 8 bit work of art. This was a great for toddlers! |
"It's like I am in a video game!!!!" |
The duck. |
Calvin also had fun. |
We had a lot of fun at the Museum and the outdoor party was a great end to a fun evening.
Also, you should check out the beauty and belief exhibit. It is amazing.

The Internet and other stories
Lots is going on in our lives. I don't have time to post.
The boys are growing and are lots of fun.
Calvin was super silly this evening. I was watching ratatouille with Felix and t came to the part where he says that ratatouille sounds like rat and patottie. Calvin cracked up when he heard that. I said it to him again and he squealed and laughed. Felix and I got a lot of entertainment out of it.
We have a vegetable garden growing out back and it is coming a long nicely. This year we are planning on trying to keep some root vegetables in the ground this winter. Also if you have not tried rutabaga in a soup. You should replace some of the potato in your favorite potato soupe recipe. I am loving it right now. Oh and parsnips. Seriously you should try them too. But don't use the core of the parsnip. It is supposed to be bitter.
Next week is the end of the first block of classes. I am a little sad. I have really enjoyed my 2D class. I think have learned some and really had fun creating and experimenting. Several of the students in the class I am in will be in my drawing 1 class next block so That should be fun.
I am also going to start a tumbler account to post some of the artwork I have done for class and whatever. I need to post my collage to aunt mona. I did a scrapbook page of some postcards and keepsakes she had from a trip to Palm Springs.
I should really be writing my paper for english right now...
Oh and you never realize how much you are on the internet until you don't have it. It has been gone all day today and last night. It was weird I was not sure what to do with my time. I am happy to have the internet back. I feel like I have some sort of structure to my day now.

The Potty
Apparently I am potty training Felix.
It was not my intention to start this weekend.
In fact I was planning on starting in September.
But Friday I was out shopping and Felix saw underwear and wanted them. I said no because he was not potty trained. We have been talking about using the potty lately. He loves to pretend to use the potty, especially after his cousin uses the bathroom. He loves to follow people into the bathroom as well so Justin and I don't have much privacy. I bought a little potty for him so he had somewhere to sit when he was pretending to pee in the potty.
Saturday he insisted on using it. We took off his diaper and let him sit for what seemed like ever. He peed! We were all excited!
Then he got a treat. Felix was super excited about that. So every once and a while he would ask to use it. Or beg.
Sunday he asked and after he took his diaper off peed in the toilet. Consistently today he is asking to use the bathroom then going. Yeah!
Mostly he likes getting candy. He really likes the candy.
I decided on the Baby Bjorn Potty. It has been really nice. Easy to empty, good size and has a pee blocker for little boys. It comes in a range of colors so Felix got to pick the one he wanted.

Mokara Vanda Hybrid
Ok, so like two years ago we got this super cool vanda hybrid. I loved it. Justin wanted to get rid of it last year because he did not have the right conditions for it and it was not growing well. After moving to Orem we now have a South facing window that gets lots of light and better conditions to grow this plant. So I took charge of its care and now it has a spike!!!!!!!!!!!!
( I don't pretend that It was my loving care that helped it to grow any. Really it just got more light)
I am super excited! I loved the flowers they were beautiful.!
I am really looking forward to seeing the flowers everyday in my kitchen!
