The Burn
Monday Justin went to school early and he was soo nice and wonderful and turned our furnace on. It was so fabulous to wake up to a warm house. But after I got up and got ready for work I realized that I had no idea how to turn it off.
We have an ancient furnace, circa 1945, no joke. So I looked inside and saw 2 nobs 1 I figured was for the pilot light and the other was the gas. I was having turning issues, I could not get the gas to turn off. On my second attempt my hand slipped and met up with a very hot object. So I decided to stop for a min and put some ice on it. It didn't look to bad, so I attempted to turn it off again. After the 4th try or so I got the gas off.
After a few min at work I noticed I had a nice burn on my hand (about an inch long.) Thankfully it didn't hurt, I was happy about that.
When I got home I told Justin about it and what happened, he laughed and said I was silly. Well a little bit later that night he went to turn of the furnace and also got a burn on his hand. :)
The image is pretty close to what our furnace looks like, except on the inside the Gas shut off valve is right next to the burner. Which is what I burned my hand on. After 5 days the burn is looking pretty sad. The blister popped and left me with some nice dark discoloration. It is also beginning to scab over in parts and itch.
On A Good Note Justin is done with classes!! I am so happy for him. Monday is the only day he has finals! He has done good this term and I am sooo happy he gets a few weeks off to relax!

Woodburry Art Museum
Last night Justin and I went to the Woodburry Art Museum. We went to see the current photography exhibit. The exhibit was a collection of photo's from Brazil. I really enjoyed this exhibit; the colors were beautiful, and they did a great job of contrasting distruction and life. My favorite was this little girl with a bird on her head. It is super cute!
There are several other displays there.
One is some Oil portraits. I liked the speak flowers one the best. (Urgh there was one I just hated the compisition and emotion are awful, just not a good painting.)
There was also one where the artist was experimenting with paralel lines. (thats all it is , parallel lines with color. Justin did not care for it:) but I liked it )
And another exhibit done with oil pastels, I thought it was pretty cool, the artist uses alot of paterns and portrates.
There was also a sculpture exibit most of the peices were ok, nothting to write home about. After looking at several we decided that most of the items on display were meant to be hung up. Which was sad because that is how the artisit obviously wanted them displayed, and may have changed our mind about the exhibit.
Lastly there was a small exhibit by Jame Christensen. It was cool so see some more of his artwork. (my sisters brother inlaw lived down the street from him for a while and the house they were renting had a few pices of his in it.) My favorite one of his there was the Fairy Tale painting. It is preety cool!
I recomed you go and see the current exibit. It is free and it is always nice to get out and do something!
I really want to go to BYU's MOA and check it out now!
The Woodburry Art building is super easy to get to it is right next to Nordstroms at the University Mall on the south side of the building. Walk inside and go up the stairs and around the corner and there is the gallary. Here is a link http://www.uvu.edu/museum/ so you can get more information.
Also 2 of the paintings I liked are on the home page:)
Have a great day!
Oh man, seeing this really made me want to get creative and draw soemthing....

Growing Hair
Well I now have about 3 inches of donateable hair. Whoo Hoo!
I have been having frustration with my bangs. They just are not doing anything. I was ready to chop them off. (you know like you used to when you were 5.) I thought better of this and decided to be patient. It has been very hard. Thankfully I have bobby pins and barrets to keep my vision clear. And in an effort to help me from cutting my hair I bought a shampoo to help my hair be strong and less damaged. I don't know if it has worked at all, but it has soothed my ego for a little while. I just have to keep telling my self that in a year I can have all the nasty damaged stuff cut off and a nice haircut. I am really looking forward to this. REALLY looking forward to it. This will be the longest time I have gone without doing anything to my hair since Eliza started hair school. I just have to forget that I have hair and the time will pass by quicker....

Tagged
So I guess people want to know me better, so here we go.....
Rules: A - People who are tagged need to post these rules and 8 random habits, facts, quirks about themselves. B - At the end of the post you need to choose 8 people to get tagged and list their names.
1. I was married in Las Vegas. After dating Justin for almost 3 weeks we drove to Vegas and got married. It was crazy and Don't ever do it! I am very happy to be married to him. We compliment each other very well. And we were sealed in the Timp. temple this year. It was FAB!
2. I LOVE cooking! Sorry I haven't posted any recipes. I update the blog when I am at work. All the recipes I use are at home. I will fix this soon.
3. I have a scar on my tongue. When I had braces My tongue got got on this thing on the roof of my mouth and I ripped a chunk out of my tongue.
4. I am really scared of spiders, and the tower of terror. Really I am.
5. I have worked at the same place for like 5 years on and off. I really have enjoyed working at a school. The one thing I have learned over the years is that no body reads, even when they are told they need to read something, and this also applies to parents. I have made it a point to be more observant and read things.
6. I can actually run two miles now! Thanks to a great husband who helps to push me.
7. I don't touch type. I really have tried learning. I just type faster the way that I type.
8. I love cheese more than chocolate. This has happened this year. Justin and I have decided to treat ourselves once a month to a new kind of cheese. This month we bought some fetta. I am going to make a Greek Pizza with it. I am super excited! I think I like Cheese more because there is more variety and I think it is just a bit more versital that chocolate. Chocolate is just number 2 now. No longer #1.
I tag Ariel, Ashley, Heather, Tamra & who ever else would like to be tagged.

Men in Cars
So as I have been walking and riding my bike to work I have noticed something.
About 10% of the male population in cars cat call.
I have come to two conclusions as to why they do it:
#1 They think you are attractive (does anyone anymore to respond to that archaic form of finding a mate?)
#2 They are real dill holes and are looking to hurt you: buy shouting as loud as they can from their cars, causing you to jump, or swerve.
I think I have shown great restraint in not giving them certain hand signals to express how I feel about what they have just done. I could really get hurt, I could trip and fall I could swerve into traffic... Yeah that is really funny...
Also I found it very interesting that EVERY ONE of the cars that has done this has been a truck.

Curry
Curry is fabulous stuff. So far I have love every kind of curry from around the world.
Thai and Indian happen to be my favorite.
If you are looking for a warm winter dish that will warm you inside out, check out curry. My favorite places right now to get it are Bombay house and Bancock Grill (try the pumpkin curry there it is the best!)
If you aren't looking to spend money check out the internet. There are like a million recipes, ranging from hard to easy. Most of the ingredients you can pick up at your grocery store.
I love curry!
Update: I went to the sunflower market last night and if you are looking for thai basil, kamfur lime leaves, galangal ginger and other things for an authentic thai curry you can pick them up there! I ma super excited! Also the check out clerk said that the curry pastes they have are really good. I am looking forward to trying them too! Also the good kind of coconut milk is on sale for 99 cents a can. That is a great deal!

Run Home
So Tuesday I decided I would finaly walk to work. I woke up early and left the house around 7:15. The walk to school was so nice. The sunrise was beautyful and I felt really good. Then I changed and left for home. Ya running with a backpack on stinks. I made it home 20 min. fatser than it took for me to walk. I was pretty happy with that. I also Killed my right knee. I was soooooooo pooped. I really couldn't do anything. Yesterday I struggled to wake up. And my leggs were so stiff. I was ready to sleep last night when I got home at 5:00. Today I am feeling more awake and ready to try it again next Monday. I have a plan so I will not have to wear the back pack running home.

Scary Movies
Most of you who know me know that I am a chicken.
For some odd reason I have a soft spot in my heart for Scary Movies, really it is mostly it's the special effects in them, I don't really enjoy watching them at all.
I do not watch Horror Movies. YUCK!
Anyways today to get in the Halloween spirit I changed the backgrounds on the computers at work to some famous moments from scary movies.
Here is a list if them:

Anyways today to get in the Halloween spirit I changed the backgrounds on the computers at work to some famous moments from scary movies.
Here is a list if them:
- • The Shining (the scary part where Jack is coming through the door!) The only other one I would like to see is the Shining. Why I don't know, I read the screen play online and I have wanted to see it ever since.
- • Jaws (the movie poster) The only one I have seen all the way through is Jaws. (I went though a Jaws thing a few years ago. Yes I have seen them all. The first one is good. The 3D one is crap. And the rest are OK, mostly bloody horror type stuff.)
- • The terminator (the shiny skeletal machines) Machines taking over and killing everyone. Not interested, I am still having nightmares from seeing the preview when I was young.
- • A pumpkin, because I like them.
- • Poltergeist (the little girl in front of the T.V.) I used to want to see this movie. Then we watched part of it at Jude and Eliza's: I just thought it would be cooler.
- • Blair which Project (the close up of the girl with a flashlight) I wasn't interested in high school, and I am still not interested.
- • The grudge (the scary blue girl) yeah it looked scary to me, until people kept telling me it was better than the ring. I didn't like the Ring at all, I found the story lacking and it just didn't make sense, so why should I be scared? And why should I see a movie that is like it?
- • Night of the living dead (1950's) (walking Zombies) I could see this one, the blood and guts factor may be lower than other zombie movies. (Old scary movies can be fun. Ha, like I saw the original Blob. Oh my gosh so stupid / funny.) But thanks to Thriller, & World War Z, I have a bit of a fear of Zombies. (I did love Shawn of the Dead though...) I just need to get myself a Kevlar suit that they can't bite through, and I will feel more secure.
- Happy 2 days before Halloween everybody!
Halloween
So Halloween is in a few days! Have you decided what you will dress up as?
I am going to be Alice from Alice in Wonderland. I am super excited!

New Pod
So for my birthday Last week my parents gave me an i Pod touch. I was in shock for a few days... (still am a little)
But Now That I am learning to use it, WOW, I am in love with it, I calendar everything and I can go online! Love It! I can see why so many people love the i Phone.
I had a great UEA weekend. Justin and I relaxed and cleaned the house then we went to my parents for Emma's birthday. Justin took photo's for his class and I hung out and helped around the house. On Monday I Crafted all Day. Time Flies when you have fun! I made some pretty amazing cards. I will upload pictures soon :) I also read World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. I really enjoyed it. The book really made me feel introspective and think about how I would react to things etc... I also did not expect it to have a very interesting societal comment.I would not recommend it to the faint of heart because it is a zombie book and there is blood guts and goore.
Justin gets to pick a major this week. I think he may choose psychology. But he was still unsure.
Sorry if the update is a bit spazzy blame it on the paint fumes, they painted a wall in my room this morning

Haunted Mansion
So when I was young The Haunted Mansion was one of the rides that FREAKED me out (not to mention Pinocchio, Snow White, Mr. Toad, Pirates of the Caribbean). I would ride it with my eyes shut in between my mom and Eliza.
Now it is one of my favorite rides ever! Check out doombuggies.com if you love this ride. they have everything you could ever imagine about it; a history, images and a few ghost stories of their own. Also they have some pretty fun desktop backgrounds perfect for the season.
I love Halloween!!!!!!

Struwwelpeter
When Eliza and I were young our neighbor had this German children's book called Struwwelpeter. The book was in German, so we couldn't read it but the pictures were very funny: we would take turns making up what the stories were about. Yesterday I was thinking about this book, so I did some interneting and I found it. In English! I am so happy. I also found a site with the whole book. (And our translation of the stories was pretty good I must say.) I really like the illustrations and each of the poems has a moral to it. I am going to buy this one for my family:)
Please check it out, it will make you happy.

Hate
Hate is one thing I had never experienced until I read The Crucible. In high school I hated Abigail so much. The book drove me crazy. Then we watched the movie and for a while I hated Winona Ryder because I associated the character with her. (I eventually got over that.) I think I dislike Abigail sooooooo much because I see all the personality traits I despise.
So in reading it a second time I hope to compare my self to her and hopefully expunge any similarities. Also let us hope I never run into anyone who is like Abigail because I might just rip her eyes out. The play is very well written and I highly recommend it. I also recommend reading it quickly, don't drag out the torment and frustration.

This site helped me decide where I sand on up coming issues. PLEASE go to it and check it out.
It presents both side of the argument and everything is easy to understand. (That is why I think it is so great) You will be surprised at who "your" candidate is! It is sooo important that we vote. It is our chance to tell the people who run our country how we feel, no matter how crazy and insignificant you think you are.
Pass it on to everyone you know!!!!!!

Tower of Terror
Last night I was talking to Justin about things I was scared of. Here is a list of my top 5
Spiders. Why i am sacred of them: I went fabric shopping with my mom and my little sister needed to use the restroom. First of all where the bathroom was located was questionable it was a dark closet and it looked like something out of a horror film, looked nothing like the rest of the store. Anyways when my sister finished and we were leaving a spider egg broke over our heads. I freaked out and ran screaming out. It is the nastiest feeling I have ever felt. I wasn't to scared of them before that point, but now and after oh especially when they sneak up on me I freak out. Justin can attest to that.2.
Twilight Zone. Freaks me out still. Yesterday I was listening to a Disney radio station and the full attraction came on. Ya it gave me the heebie geebies and I got all clammy my hart rate went up... in short I got the jitters. the good news is that I no longer run from the room with my ears covered. Why I am scared of it, I have a faint recollection of the movie and something happening in the first few moments that terrified me. I know the T.V. show is super cheesy, but there it is.
Being sucked into space through a telescope. I like space I find it very interesting. Super cool stuff. But every time I look into a telescope I really think that maybe it could suck me out to whatever I am looking at. This one I think stemmed from me reading about the early space program and a fear of being left out in space.
The Ocean. probably one of my favorite things ever. I am cool with swimming on the beach and tide pools and what not. Open Ocean is another thing. I am not afraid of sharks so much or squid or other Tthings like that. I think it is the unknown that is out there that freaks me out anything could grab hold of me an pull me down. Also you can't see the bottom. I will never snorkel on a reef or scuba dive.
Heights. This did not happen until recently. The first time I went to Bryce Canyon I was OK with it beautiful place I really enjoyed myself. Then on the way out We stopped a few places, Then I saw children dangling themselves unsupervised over the edge. That was the first time I had vertigo. So not fun. Then the whole rest of the way home every time we stopped by a drop off I had a little bout of it. the wost was when we drove on the devils back bone. A rode on the top of a mountain a drop off on both sides. Who's idea was it to make a rode on the spine of a mountain? I made it across but I felt like at any moment a gust of wind would blow me off. Now I am pretty cool with heights, The vertigo just pops up at weird times now. Like one day I was on a ladder, not 3 feet off the ground, and the room span and I had a small freak out.

Sweet word of wisdom
I am currently reading Gandhi's autobiography. It is pretty cool...
Here are some words of wisdom from it:
"I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and nonviolence are as old as the hills."
"...will be, a society, based on non-violence. It may seem a distant goal, an unpractical utopia. But it is not in the least unobtainable, since it can be worked from here and now. An individual can adopt the way of life of the future-the non-violent way-without having to wait for others to do so. And if an individual can do it, cannot whole groups of individuals? Whole nations?"
Anyways it's pretty cool stuff. I recommend his autobiography its an easy read, and quite interesting.

The Weekend Cometh!
What ever happened to Friday being pizza day at school? I looked forward to school lunch on that day only! Here it is on Wednesday, weird. Speaking of pizza I love making home made pizza. Ooh and bread sticks. I suggest we make Friday Pizza Day again and all have pizza tonight for dinner!
I am so excited for this weekend. Tomorrow Justin and I are going on a hike and then taking his photo's to the photo lab and he is going to show me how to develop film. He says it's really easy, but we shall see how easy it is for me. Also I am looking forward to visiting Eliza and friends.
Oh and Disneyland Podcast's are great! I have been watching a few of them. I found one that has video from Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Tokyo. I recommend that if you are in the mood from some Disney fun to check them out. It is not as great as being at the park but it will do. Some of my favorites are the big D and Oakfan. they do a really good job. The official Disney podcast is also alot of fun. Have a great weekend everyone!

Sunday was our Regional Conference. The talk elder Jensen gave was amazing! It was about being different and how we all have challenges, some you can see easier than others. By the end of the talk I was in tears, he shared this song from the Primary Children's Song Book:
I’ll Walk with You
If you don’t walk as most people do,
Some people walk away from you,
But I won’t! I won’t!
If you don’t talk as most people do,
Some people talk and laugh at you,
But I won’t! I won’t!
I’ll walk with you.
I’ll talk with you.
That’s how I’ll show my love for you.
Jesus walked away from none.
He gave his love to ev’ryone.
So I will! I will!
Jesus blessed all he could see,
Then turned and said,
“Come, follow me.”
And I will! I will!
I will! I will!
I’ll walk with you.
I’ll talk with you.
That’s how I’ll show my love for you.

- 2. Justin meets a lot of people at the track, this week he met someone who is friends with his (our) cousin
- 3. This same cousin is in a religion class at BYU with 3 of my (our) cousins!
- 4. One of the kids that was in my ward in California married someone from Justin's California ward
- There is another couple in our ward from Hollister! C-Ra-Z-Y

Christmas
Merry Christmas!
Ok, so I have heard a rumor that there will be a big family reunion this Christmas with the Busby's and Florences! I am super excited! I will post more news about this as I get it. I am super excited!
Happy Fall!
Ok So yesterday was wonderful! My favorite kind of weather! and I see that some of the leaves are changing... So next week a fall hike is in order! This is my favorite time of the year I love the change and the crisp air.
Also this last week I timed my mile, ooh 10 min 49 seconds. But I did run once around the track in 2 min. 40 sec. Which is cool because that is what I ran my Junior year in high school! (I found that out last night while looking through an old journal.) So my goal is to break a 10 min. mile. Right now I need to have my lungs catch up with my legs.

Rain and Mud
Saturday Justin and I rode to my parents house to do laundry. It was a beautiful morning and the ride was pleasant. We finished all our laundry and spent the day hanging out with family and relaxing. Just as we were about to leave it started pouring. I have never seen so much rain at once! We left after it had rained and cleared up. About the time we got to Lindon it starts to rain again... so we stop at a business and wait under their awning for it to clear up. I got a bit worried and was thinking; "what if it gets super wet on Geneva road and we get totally splashed... "
So we call my parents, but by the time we get to talking it has cleared up again. So we decide to continue to ride. Well It starts to sprinkle it was nice than it just started to rain from 1600 in Orem and whole rest of the way home. We were completely soaked and muddy! I was irritated with Justin about the time we hit Provo. It was fun to ride in the rain at first but then it was just crappy. Justin was laughing manically most of the way and really enjoying himself :) I was miserable by the time we got home.
On the upside I am soooo grateful that we have a storage room! We were able to hang all our wet and muddy cloths up, and keep our house relatively mud and rain free!

Trash
So I was thinking the other day bout trash and how much of it there is. Then I thought, what if I kept a journal of all the things I throw away (like people do for food and other things). I started thinking about my day and what I had thrown away that could have been recycled or used again. The red cups I use everyday at work came to mind. Usually I use one every day. I have been throwing them away without any thought for about 5 years. I was thinking in one month I would have used about 31 cups! And that is just at work! Then I began thinking about how many that would be in a year...
11,315 cups in one year! (this is just a rough guess, it's probably way under) WOW that number blew my mind! So I have made the resolve to use one cup until it breaks or something else happens to it and to be more conscious of what I am doing.
Also I decided not to do a trash log it would be too gross :)

Whats New
So just a quick update. Riding my bike to work has been great! I feel more energized and ready for the day. Yesterday Justin and I rode to my parents house. It was a great ride. (So By the time I got past Pleasant Grove High school I felt like I was going to hurl.) but I think with me riding everywhere and riding to Pleasant Grove once a week I will be in great shape! And next weeks ride to P.G. won't be nearly as bad at the end. And I am super excited about that. Also when It gets cooler I am planning on walking to work and running home on Fridays. I am not looking forward too much to that but It I know it will be really good for me. So school starts in 2 weeks. I am excited to see what this year will bring!
I read No Country for Old Men this weekend... I didn't like it that much. The only reason I read it in a weekend was to see what happened to the characters. At one point I almost put the book down and I didn't want to finish it. All in all I don't think the plot was not that well put together and that to many unimportant things were explained and that too many important things were not explained. I enjoyed The Road much more. I do not recommend this book.
Justin and I began cataloging all of our digital music this weekend. Currently we are adding CD's that we do not have in a digital format. Then we are rating the music and confirming that the information is correct. WOW this is a big project. I will be very happy when it gets done.

Bike safety
Yesterday some lady tried to kill me while I was
riding my bike home from
my track workout. I was riding on the sidewalk of
a really busy street and was about to cross a parking lot
entrance when she pulled into the parking lot right
in front of me (we were both going to same direction on the
street). I was accelerating so I was standing up on
the pedals of the bike, which caused me to go over
my front tire when I slammed my brakes. It was kind of
scary and I felt pretty embarrassed for not seeing the car
making the turn, but I was pissed when I noticed my right
shoulder starting to hurt. I feel OK today, but probably
won't do any of the presses I had planned on at the gym.
Other than that I only got two small cuts and a road rash
burn on my left leg. Like I said to some lady who asked
if I was OK. I'm young and resilient.
Please watch out for people on bikes!!!!

Energy Saving Tips
Here are some great tips I found for saving energy:
http://www1.eere.energy.gov/consumer/tips/index.html
Check it out they have a lot of good ideas that will save you $$$$
- Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher's drying cycle.
- Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.
- Plug home electronics, such as TVs and DVD players, into power strips; turn the power strips off when the equipment is not in use (TVs and DVDs in standby mode still use several watts of power).
- Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater to 120° F.
- Close your curtains and shades at night; open them during the day.
- Turn off the lights in any room you're not using, or consider installing timers, photo cells, or occupancy sensors to reduce the amount of time your lights are on.
- Take advantage of daylight by using light-colored, loose-weave curtains on your windows to allow daylight to penetrate the room while preserving privacy. Also, decorate with lighter colors that reflect daylight.
- Idling gets you 0 miles per gallon. The best way to warm up a vehicle is to drive it. No more than 30 seconds of idling on winter days is needed. Anything more simply wastes fuel and increases emissions.
- Clear out your car; extra weight decreases gas mileage.
- Use air conditioning only when necessary.
- Get regular engine tune-ups and car maintenance checks to avoid fuel economy problems due to worn spark plugs, dragging brakes, low transmission fluid, or transmission problems.

Night Thoughts
So Last night I was thinking before I went to sleep. (I do this a lot and find that time passes very quickly.) I was thinking about pickles and how on earth they get there color. Is it from the skins of the cucumber, the spices? Or is it because they put die in them...
here are some interesting things I found out today:
Pickles take on a vivid green color in the presence of high concentrations of copper. Some old pickle recipes call for heating the pickling solution in a copper kettle or for adding copper pennies or a "blue stone" (copper sulfate) to impart a bright green color. (This way can be poisonous!)
Because the chlorophyll present in the cucumbers is green to the human eye receptors. During the brining process to turn the cucumbers into pickles, the chloroplasts in the chlorophyll go through a chemical reaction making the entire pickle green. That's the scientific explanation.
And some places add green die :)
